Harper Adams University Telford Hosts UK Launch of ViKANG™ -An Award-Winning Sustainable Packaging Innovation
18th March 2026
Harper Adams University’s Telford campus recently welcomed N&E Innovations Pte. Ltd. of Singapore for the UK launch of ViKANG™, a sustainable compostable food packaging technology derived from upcycled food waste.
The Sustainable Innovation Lunch, held on 11 March 2026 at The Quad, brought together industry professionals, government stakeholders, and sustainability advocates to explore how next-generation packaging solutions can help address two major environmental challenges: plastic waste and food waste.
ViKANG™ is a proprietary technology developed by N&E Innovations that transforms food waste into functional biomaterials used in compostable packaging systems. Integrated into compostable clingfilm and other food packaging applications, the technology supports shelf-life extension for fresh produce while maintaining certified compostability, helping reduce both packaging waste and food spoilage.
The material is TÜV Austria OK Home Compost certified, meaning it can break down in a home compost environment. The innovation has also received international recognition, including the Zayed Sustainability Prize 2026 (Food Category) presented by the President of the UAE, and a nomination for The Earthshot Prize 2026.
The event provided an opportunity for UK stakeholders to learn more about the technology, discuss how it aligns with evolving UK packaging regulations, and explore potential research, industry, and commercial collaboration opportunities.
Harper Adams University continues to play an important role in connecting international innovation with the UK agri-food and sustainability ecosystem. Events such as this highlight the university’s commitment to supporting sustainable technologies that can deliver real-world impact.
